With 531 of its 1,531,332 homes going into foreclosure, Connecticut had the fifth highest foreclosure rate in the USA at one in every 2,884 households. The counties that had the most foreclosures per housing unit were the following: Windham, New Haven, Hartford, Litchfield, and Fairfield.

If you are behind in your mortgage payments, or if your bank started a foreclosure case against you, you can stop the foreclosure proceedings with a bankruptcy filing. You also have the right to mediate your loan with your bank through the foreclosure mediation program in every Court in Connecticut. A mediation can lead to a modification of your loan or a forbearance. In most bankruptcy filings you can keep your residence and still file bankruptcy. This is called a “homestead exemption.” In Connecticut your homestead exemption is $250,000.00, which means if you have less than that amount in equity you can keep your house and still file bankruptcy. If you jointly own your home you and your spouse would be entitled to keep $500,000.00 in equity and still file bankruptcy.

I can help you stop a foreclosure, pursue mediation, negotiate with your bank or file bankruptcy on your behalf. Please contact my office at 2037724848 to schedule an appointment.
